West's CivicLive solutions 2018: Year in Review

2018 was a busy year for West’s CivicLive solutions. We’ve spent the past twelve months working with local governments across the United States, building new, modern websites that help governments provide the best in digital services to their constituents. Along with continuing to build award-winning websites, we’ve also expanded our content production, including more blog posts and eBooks.

Award-Winning Websites

In 2018 West’s CivicLive solutions won 11 awards for web design from several prestigious international marketing and design competitions including the MarCom Awards, the W3 Awards and the DotComm Awards.

Our award-winning sites include:

City of Cotati, CA, featuring:

  • A front and center search bar. The easy-to-find bar makes locating information a quick and simple process for site visitors who know what they're looking for.
  • Large, graphical quick links to help with fast navigation.
  • Site sections that include a subtle fade-in on load and as a user scrolls, improving the overall user experience.

City of Monroe, MI, featuring

  • Video background in the homepage header. Video backgrounds give a website a modern look and feel, and are known to boost user engagement and conversion rates.
  • Subpage navigation with an expandable list, enabling the content to use the full width of the page.
  • Strong branding presence.

City of Memphis, TN, featuring

  • Hero image. Perfect for bringing attention to current events, communication and storytelling.
  • News reel Located at the top of the homepage, providing 24-hour updates.
  • Animated infographics. Present on the website's homepage, animated infographics are an economic alternative to video content.

Shareable Content Through the Year

This year the CivicLive blog produced some great content, focusing on communication, citizen engagement and the positive benefits of eGov tools.

We started the year with a look at the changing nature of Section 508—Website Accessibility, took a closer look at the best HTML tags to use when writing a blog post and even reviewed the benefits of a website content audit.

In-Depth Reads

CivicLive also produced two eBooks taking a more in depth look at topics we know a lot about: Website Usability and Writing for the Web.

Look out for our next eBook, Achieving Website Accessibility, coming out early 2019.
